Changing Landscapes in the Health and Life Sciences: Ethical Challenges of Big Data
Wissenschaftliche Veranstaltungen für wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs (Forschungsateliers, Sommerschulen)
2021
U Göttingen - U de Strasbourg, U Innsbruck
This Winter School brings together 40 Master and doctoral students and 13 teachers in the life & biomedical sciences to jointly elaborate on the conceptual and ethical considerations that arise from Biomedical Big Data (BBD) collection and use. During the 5-day course, we will create a flexible in-person environment for students to allow for the acquisition of knowledge on:
– Technologies for generating, collecting, curating and interpreting large biomedical dataset,
– Ethical and legal aspects in the interpretation and curation of BBD,
– Presentation of contexts (industry vs academia) of aspects of BBD collection, interpretation and curation and potential dilemmas.
The presentations will be structured in the context of presented dilemma/case study allowing for gradual experience of application of knowledge into practice. The School will be further augmented by students‘ partaking in virtual collaborative exercises focusing on the discussed case study. The activities will be enhanced by VaKE, which will create a sense of student-teacher mutual responsibility in the project and encourage equal dialogue „empowering“ students and teachers to fully engage with the project.
