Intermediality in the Age of Enlightenment

This international symposium will unite younger scholars from France and Germany. Concerned with some major discourses in the Age of Enlightenment (e.g. travel reports, pastoral, natural sciences, medicine, politics), the conference will focus on the inter-medial nature of these discourses. In other words, on the ways in which they are indebted to several fields of representation that render them interesting as objects of an intercultural analysis. The inter-medial approach should provide a most fruitful basis for the exploration of inter-textual aspects too often ignored in the disciplinary study of texts or visual representations.
